« Une contradiction est faite de diction, et de contre. Il y a deux dictions différentes. Alors, plutôt que de dire qu'il y a une contradiction différente, mieux vaut dire, il y a deux dictions, et puis voyons… Par exemple en 1948, les Israélites marchent dans l'eau vers la Terre promise. Les Palestiniens marchent dans l'eau, vers la noyade. Champ et contrechamp. Champ et contrechamp. Le peuple juif rejoint la fiction, le peuple palestinien le documentaire. »

Interview about the film Notre musique by Jean-Luc Godard, in which the director talks about his cinematic practice today.

“A contradiction is made of diction and of contra. There are two different dictions. So rather than saying that there is a different contradiction, we should say that there are two dictions, and then see… For example, in 1948, when the Jews walked out of the water to the Promised Land, the Palestinians walked into the water. Shot and reverse-shot. Shot and reverse-shot. The Jews became the stuff of fiction, the Palestinians became a documentary”
