Daniel Schmid, né en 1941, était le fils d’un hôtelier de Flims. Stimulé par les histoires de sa grand-mère, l’enfant doué découvre l’art de l’expressivité: le hall de l’hôtel de ses parents devient une scène et lui-même un conteur d’histoires qu’il restera pendant toute sa vie. Le filmressemble à unmystérieux kaléidoscope de personnages et de lieux. Il nous entraîne dans un impétueux voyage cinématographique à travers la vie et l’oeuvre de l’un des artistes les plus extraordinaires du cinéma suisse. Quand il était enfant, Daniel Schmid savait déjà que le monde commençait derrière la montagne du Flimserstein. Un monde entre la réalité et la fiction.

Daniel Schmid, born in 1941, was the son of a hotelier in Flims. A gifted child, he was spurred by his grandmother’s stories to discover the art of being expressive. The hall of his parents’ hotel became a stage and he, the storyteller he would remain to the end of his days. The film resembles a mysterious kaleidoscope of people and places. It takes us on a sprawling cinematic journey through the life and work of one of Swiss cinema’smost extraordinary artists. As a child, Daniel Schmid already knew that there was a world beyond the Flimserstein – a world poised between reality and fiction.
