Le film retrace l’itinéraire complexe de Mikhaïl Kalatozov (Palme d’Or du Festival de Cannes en 1958 pour son chefd’oeuvre Quand passent les cigognes), très impliqué dans l’histoire politique, culturelle et diplomatique de l’ex-URSS. Son fils Giorgi-Tito puis son petit-fils, un autre Mikhaïl, ont poursuivi ses recherches dans leurs propres oeuvres, chacun avec talent. Qu'a pu apporter la dynastie des Kalatozichvili au cinéma géorgien, russe et mondial ? Mikhaïl Kalatozichvili (décédé en octobre 2009) revient sur l'épopée familiale et témoigne des errances actuelles du cinéma russe. The film retraces the complex career ofMikhaïl Kalatozov (Palme d’Or winner at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival for his masterpiece The Cranes Are Flying), who was heavily involved in the political, cultural and diplomatic history of the former USSR. His son Giorgi-Tito, followed by his grandson, another Mikhaïl, both skilfully pursued his work in their own films. What did the Kalatozichvili dynasty contribute to Georgian, Russian and world cinema? Mikhaïl Kalatozichvili (who died in October 2009) looks back at his family’s history and talks about the current peregrinations of Russian cinema. Listening to his words and watching images saved by three generations, the conversations flow.
